College

Destinee played at Texas from 2006-2009. She burst onto the college volleyball scene back in 2007 when she took her Texas Longhorns to the NCAA Semifinals her junior year but lost to Stanford in five sets. Hooker had 23 kills, 21 digs and hit .362 in the loss, showing that her team would be a force to be reckoned with in her senior season.
Hooker and the Longhorns did not disappoint in 2009. They stormed back to the Final Four and this time reached the final by beating No. 11 Minnesota in three sets to set up a showdown with the No. 1 team in the nation, undefeated Penn State. The Nittany Lions were on a 101-match win streak and were going for an unprecedented third-straight national title. In what was arguably the best NCAA Championship match in history, No. 2 Texas got out to a fast start, winning the first two sets and putting Penn State on the ropes. They were unable to hold on though, as Penn State used its vast Final Four experience to battle back and win the next three sets and thus the national title. With a career-high 34 kills, Hooker was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Championships.

Olympics

Destinee joined the national team after college and quickly rose to become one of the best players in the world. Behind her dynamic attack on the right side, the U.S. soon began beating No. 1 Brazil regularly and by 2011 had overtaken the gold medalist Brazilians at the top of the rankings. The USA women have fielded one of the deepest teams in history, winning three straight Grand Prix titles in a row and consistently beating out the best teams in the world. The team is expected to win a gold medal at the London Olympics which will be Destinee’s first Olympic Games. Off the Court: Her sister Marshevet is a Beijing Olympian and was an NCAA champion, All-American and Big
12 champion in the long jump, sprints and relays from 2004-06. Destinee graduated early from high school and enrolled at UT in January of 2006 to compete in track and field.
